I remembered I had liquid sculpey. So...I'm going to try the wing design in multiple layers of paper, coated and baked and wired into the pony.
I have, you may like to note, never used liquid sculpey. So I have no idea whether this will work. But I have it on good authority the liquid sculpey is the medium of choice for most transparent wings and you can bake it on paper...
(And if I like the design, sheet metal wings are still not out of the question. And neither are stained glass type wings. I actually bought stained glass chips a while ago with that idea in mind, so don't think I'm kidding about this...)

There's a cricket somewhere in my office. If I find you, cricket, you are dead.
Back to the website now...still editing pictures. I'm hoping to get the picture part done so we can get the RF section "live" at some point before my hair goes grey. I already got the fun section up (it's for tours, quizlets, neat websites that don't really fit elsewhere...) Only three fun things so far, but the tours are still in progress...
ETA: And I just gave a tour to two kids and their stressed out dad. I was there to preoccupy them while the girl forgot about the bouncy ball she lost. Oh my. I'm never having kids. Somehow when kittens play and climb on things they oughtn't, it's cute. When kids do it...not so much.
ETA 2: OMG I'm getting house tour calls already. Waaaaaaaaaah!!!

I've been stripping a handmade bookshelf that my great-something grandfather made. The ugly black paint was falling off in flakes, so it's not so hard. The bad news is that the wood was pine, and the paint is stuck in some dings and the knots. The good news is that I've been getting the paint off and leaving most of the shellac underneath in place. Should be very pretty, once I get the thing finished.
Then, ahem, I went dumpster diving again Sunday night. The neighbors put out a chair that had no seat and a slightly wobbly front leg. The chair needs stripped as well, and of course a SEAT, and a bit of reconstruction on the front leg, but I may finally be able to have a nice, sturdy chair (to match the bookcase, probably.)
Ms. Carousel is still in progress. I made the tassels today, but I think they'll be the last things I hang. I'm doing the design elements on the painted saddle and pad now (the bridle is pretty much finished, but you never know...once I get out the super glue and rhinestones and glitter, all bets are off.)
And now I want to make a steampunk pony sooo bad. You don't even know. Who's worked with metal before? Like sheet metal? My idea hinges on me miraculously picking up metalworking skills out of the aether, so, uh...help? Before I go crazy and buy a sheet of brass and grab some tin snips and start praying my fingers are still there at the end of the day?

I told you, I'm good at breaking things, even dogs.
I come over to take her for her walk about an hour early, because that's when Flurry wanted to go. Aries was outside (hates the vacuum) and barking like a crazy fool at, well, nothing. Aries is already hot and tired from being in the yard, but she acts like she's up for it...and no. She collapsed in the shade halfway through and that was it. Couldn't get her back up. She wasn't overheated or anything, she was just out of energy (too much phantom squirrel barking.) I let her lay there for a while, but madre and Flurry were about a football field away and Aries showed no signs of walking under her own power, so yes, I carried her from the back field to the picnic bench at the school. Madre was laughing at me, horrors.
No worries, though: Aries walked the rest of the way home under her own power (although she DID faceplant into the sidewalk once randomly...she tends to do that when she gets careless and tired, or sometimes for no reason at all) and seems to be okay. But we'll see tomorrow. I probably broke her and I'll be by myself on the evening walk for a while again.
--------
In other news, I'm starting some more detail work on the carousel pony. Still needs more rhinestones...
Also went out and spent the money I got for catsitting the one neighbor's cats one shorts. You do not understand my shorts angst. I have only two pairs that fit me properly. Predictably, they are both almost threadbare. I bought otherwise identical shorts last year, and yet they like to ride up into my crotch. So this year, I was determined: They changed the sizes on me, obviously, so now I need a 5 and not a 3. (No, I haven't gained weight.) So I find two size 5 and one size 3. I decided to try the 3, since it was the only one they had, and the 5s were necessary anyway because there WERE no other 3s.
I get them home to try them on, and fuck if the size 3 wasn't perfect. The 5s were fine in the ass, but were so loose around the waist I could practically shimmy them off without unbuttoning them. Goddamn! So all three are in hock to madre (the 3s needed some stupid and pointless trim removed, while the 5s need the waistbands tucked in.)
So, long story short, my ass is still falling out of my threadbare shorts. Buuuut, I bought three pairs of shorts AND a plush Fairy Aisha Neopet for the cost of one of the pairs of shorts originally, so I guess I shouldn't really complain...still, would be nice not to wonder how many people know I'm wearing blue floral patterned underwear today...

( This involves counting. Yikes! )
And if you have time, I highly recommend the Utena Abridged Series. Go, watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZzzeY8msyQ
It's done by the same crew who's doing the best Sailor Moon Abridged series. It's good. I can't wait until we get to the 20something episodes, 'cause daaaamn...this show is already sooo messed up I can't wait to see what they do to it.

Dear Yellow Jackets:
We had this discussion yesterday. I'm glad you left the mirror. HOWEVER. Making a nest in the passenger side door in the meantime? NOT COOL. Out out out!

After the morning of fun, I spent the afternoon doing animals and the carousel pony. Ms. Carousel had a little change in plans -- I couldn't get the bridle to lay the way I wanted, so I did paint one on. I was going to make the saddle permanently attached, but I decided instead to make it removable. This way, there is a painted saddle, AND a furry (polar fleece) removable saddle. I'm still painting doodads on, and then I need to add more rhinestones, because nothing says whore stripper showgirl classy lady more than glitter and rhinestones.
All my angst about the hair was because I used kanekalon. This is what I used before you could get saran or nylon hair, and the texture is pretty stiff -- it's similar to real horsehair in feel, actually. I thought that was appropriate.
At this point, I need to start thinking about the feathers and how/if I'm going to do "real" tassels. And finishing the saddle, too, of course...and if I'll add boots to the legs or leave them alone...so many choices, so little time!
But, anyway, breaking things is more fun, and I wanted to post here so Ganz can't fix it right away...I did one of the classes that was moderately hard (I'm on level 6 of 10.) When I opened it, I got the "tutorial." Then I was presented with the first level again. I'm not complaining, you know, because I got to do it on an easier setting and it shows I "passed" that course, so...yeah. I'm diggin' it. I like these oh so rare favorable glitches...

Dear Yellow Jackets:
Car side mirrors are NOT the place to build a nest. Holy mother of GOD, no. Get out. Non-negotiable. OUT!
Dear Sinus Cavities:
Please stop making snot. There is nothing up there, as evidenced by the pristine color of said snot. So you can stop. Sneezing is not fun.
Dear Website:
Can't you update yourself?
Dear Carousel Custom:
I love you. I just wish you didn't keep me up so late last night, feverishly putting in your new hair.
Dear Espresso Machine:
I want a double shot with three sugars, delivered to my desk ASAP. XP

Well, this day has so far been made of win. Let's see what else I can break, eh?

I don't know quite what hit me, but I've been working on ponies these past few days. I finished up Blueberry (one in my series of flower themed glitter fakies) and I think she's delightful -- maybe -- MAYBE -- my favorite custom pony yet.
Then I had another fakie that I dismantled today and I started painting. It's going to be a carousel pony. I decided the silver metallic paint would be perfect. The catch is...that paint takes an hour to dry between coats. And so far I've put on three coats. A fourth is entirely likely. There's no rushing this stuff, because the paint will lift if you apply another layer too soon (I already tried, thanks...) Waaaa!
Just between us, I think this pony is going to be awesome. It's going to have a real bit in its mouth...for real! I made a paper clip bit (beading wire is not tough enough, I discovered.) There's going to be a real bridle. And probably real tassels. And feathers. And beads. It's going to be awesome. Or look like shit. (There's no middle ground, you know!)
Oh, wow, the head looks like it's almost ready for the rehair! (That's the current holdup, since I can't figure out how to add the bridle before the hair is in place...) Squeee! I can haz carousel pony!

I like you a lot, and you're a very nice tenant. I appreciate that you're paying bills and helping us. I have just one complaint: Don't leave the toilet running all weekend.
I don't even care about this from a monetary standpoint, because neither of us pay the water bill. But it's nervewracking to have it sound like the ghosts are flushing the toilet every minute.
Give the handle a jiggle after you flush. It will stop running.

| So where did this weekend go? |

The kitteh hotel cleared out yesterday. I miss the babies already...sigh! Severus and Oscar are great cats, of course, but they're more the size of bobcats than indoor kitties, so they are rather hard to snuggle properly. And without getting a hernia picking up Severus.
I got to meet Momma Cat of the babies and fell in love with the sweetie (Succubus, I hope you do name her Anastasia!) -- she really does look just like Fred, and not much bigger than him, either. And of course Adolf the Emo Kid is one of my favorites, too. I think I just need my house in the country so I can have "farm cats." Like 20 of them. (Twenty is the number I determined from my days working at Serendipity as the maximum any one person should have in a house at once -- this assuming your twenty are all in good health. The more special needs you have, the fewer cats you should have. It all makes sense, really. See, it takes about one hour of work a day per 20 cats...One hour is about all I can reasonably expect to work on cats. Ergo, twenty cat limit.)
Anyway, I cleaned the litter out of my rugs and then went to bed at 7. Got up for dinner around 10, went back to bed at midnight. Finally dragged my sorry carcass out of bed at 1:30 or so today. I am sort of annoyed at myself, because I wanted to work on TSFH like mad this weekend, but I discovered the kittens like to eat my pen, and then I got too tired to write.
But in between the cats, I went to Helen's and finally picked up TAF Buttons. Now I don't have to feel so guilty. Next month, I think Helen and I are going to go through her extra BBE ponies and see if there are any we can do the "surgery" on. That, at least, should be easier than deflocking, which is a pain and irritates my skin (which is why I haven't gotten to do any more lately...I'm allergic to gloves, too, so there's no relief from that end. SIGH, DAMNIT.)
/pointless rambles
I'm going to restring some jewelry now. I still haven't sold anything I've made, but the restringing at least gets me a bit o moola (or at least more jewelery as an in-kind gift. Good stuff.) Succubus, you shall have to tell me how the multistrand disaster bracelet holds up...I wore it for about 24 hrs and it seems nice and sturdy, buuuut...I always distrust the first time I do anything.
